Si parte per il nord, obiettivo Alaska
L’arrivo e Raiatea ed il periodo nella Polinesia Francese quest’anno a detta dei locali è particolarmente piovoso, direi che dal 20 di Aprile sino ad oggi 18 Maggio ha piovuto l’80% del tempo, spesso tipo diluvio, non sbaglio con certezza.
Partenza per le Tuamotu via Huahine , con giornata di sole al villaggio di Makatea, abitato da 60 polinesiani originali , atollo emerso sede di estrazione di nitrati dal 1909 sino agli anni 60. Giornata eccezionale con una antropologa Romana, Rebecca, che vive nel villaggio ospite di Mata x 6 mesi, e scrive una tesi sul dopo abbandono del business del nitrato, quando in qs isoletta lavorarono 1500 persone con tutte le migliori nuove tecnologie del tempo.
Cicerone primario e poi pranzo da Mata (5 pasti in uno, almeno 4 finiti in cambusa ) e gran finale con il packaging del papà di Mata di cinque belli e buoni coconut crab, trattati e congelati su lifexplorer.
Proseguiamo verso nord con un giorno di sosta nella bella laguna di TOAU, per poi far rotta su Hiva oa per l’imbarco di Clara e la consegna dalla nave che va una volta al mese alle Marchesi del nuovo super tender e motore, il vecchio Alcione è invecchiato dopo 17 anni di servizio, visite alle tombe di Gauguin e Brel e poi via per Niku Hiva e via verso equatore le Hawaii . Nel percorso abbiamo installato l’attrezzatura (soprannominata Manta) di rilevamento Oceaneye ed abbiamo raccolto il primo campione, con i nuovi protocolli, il secondo lo abbiamo raccolto appena partiti per le Hawai a nord di Nuku Hiva.
La traversata è iniziata, con una rotta leggermente a est della diretta per avere una rotta più portante dopo attraversato l’equatore e raggiunti gli alisei del nord pacifico. Le condizioni meteo sono eccezionali, previsioni venti al traverso 15-25 kn dall’inizio alla fine, da non credere, medie da record.
Oggi prosecco in frigo per primo passaggio dell’equatore oceanico (con vento !!) di Clara.

Off to the north, Alaska as the target
The arrival is Raiatea and the period in French Polynesia this year according to the locals is particularly rainy, I would say that from April 20th until today May 18th it has rained 80% of the time, often like a deluge, I am not wrong for sure.
Departure for the Tuamotu via Huahine, with a sunny day at the village of Makatea, inhabited by 60 original Polynesians, an emerged atoll where nitrate was extracted from 1909 until the 60s. We continue north with a day’s stop in the beautiful lagoon of TOAU, then head for Hiva oa for the boarding of Clara and the delivery from the ship that goes once a month to the Marquesas of the new super tender and engine, the old Alcione has aged after 17 years of service, visits to the tombs of Gauguin and Brel and then off to Niku Hiva and off towards the equator, Hawaii. Along the way we installed the Oceaneye detection equipment (nicknamed Manta) and collected the first sample, with the new protocols, we collected the second as soon as we left for Hawaii north of Nuku Hiva.
The crossing has begun, with a slightly eastward course of the direct one to have a more bearing course after crossing the equator and reaching the trade winds of the North Pacific. The weather conditions are exceptional, forecast crosswinds 15-25 kn from start to finish, unbelievable, record averages.
Today prosecco in the fridge for the first passage of the oceanic equator (with wind !!) of Clara.
